In this activity special education students use a simplified method of determining what part of an item is shaded and writes this as a fraction.

Life skill correlation: Students are able to perform functional jobs that ask for a fraction of an item or fraction of a group. The relationship between measurement units in cooking and their fractional part should be discussed.

Functional Level Differences

• Low - determine numerator of fractions up to 4 sections
• Moderate - determine numerator and denominator of fractions up to 10 sections
• High - determine numerator and denominator of fractions up to 10 sections and reduce possible fraction to lowest term
