In this life skill activity, special education students use pages from a bus schedule book to determine the time that they wold arrive at a given bus stop. Students are also required to identify the route they need to take, the direction the route is going, the name of the street the bus stop is at, if they need to make a transfer, etc.

This functional academic activity should be used int he classroom as a hands-on practical lesson prior to going into the community where public transportation is used durign a Community Based Instruction (CBI).

Life Skill teacher extension: Discussion of what time the student would need to be at the bus stop to make sure not to miss the bus. Teahcers can make more activity pages to relate to actual bus stop locations that students need to become familiar with in your neighborhood.

Functional Level Differences

• Low - 1 route, 1 direction, Monday-Friday
• Moderate - 1 route, all directions, any days
• High - routes to popular locations by name
